Walk to Save Babies!

Annually across the country March of Dimes puts on a walk... WalkAmerica. WalkAmerica is the March of Dimes largest fundraiser that supports research and other programs to help prevent premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. WalkAmerica is in it's 37th year and since 1970 has raised more than $1.7 billion to "help give babies a fighting chance."

Walks are held in several places across the country (all 50 states!!!) at the end of April. Check the link above to find a walk near you and be one of a million individuals expected this year to walk around the country. You can walk indivually or in a team. Can't walk? Sponsoring someone else or volunteering are other great ways to get involved.

A: The March of Dimes spends more than 76 percent of the money raised in WalkAmerica on research and programs that help save the lives of babies across the country and in local communities. By walking and raising money, you help support:

Research into why premature birth happens and how it can be prevented

Education to help women have healthy pregnancies and recognize the signs of preterm labor

Assistance for health care providers in better identifying women at risk for premature birth

Information and comfort for families of babies in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs)

Advocacy efforts for expanded newborn screening and increased access to health insurance for mothers and babies
