Monday News Update

N. Korea claims successful nuclear test. Apparently the weapon was tested underground and created an "earthquake" with a magnitude of 4.2, according the the U.S. geological survey. The explosion was said to be equivalent to approximately a half kiloton of TNT explosives (yes, of course I know what that means.. do you? A correspondent on CNN today said that half a kiloton is a small amount of explosives) Yikes, scary stuff. The U.S. is still trying to confirm what happened underground, whether it was a nuclear or other type of explosion


Did you actually think the Spinach thing was over?? A week ago, the FDA raised the ban on Spinach due to the E. coli outbreak.
On the 8th, Dr. A made a post about a company in Iowa recalling Beef because they may have been contaminated by the same strain of E. coli that contaminated the spinach. Other things to be recalled: bottled carrot juice... and now... lettuce.
Currently in California, some Foxy Brand lettuce has been recalled for fear of E.coli contamination. That irrigation water is suspected to the be culprit, being contaminated with E. coli. So far no E. coli has been found on the lettuce and officials are merely taking precautions, reacting to a water test (which does contain normal bacteria). Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana are among the states that have pulled the lettuce from shelves.
