Flu season is beginning. . .
"The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd druther not." Mark Twain
The CDC recommends that all children under the age of 5 get the flu vaccination. In the past there has been controversy over the safety and side effects of the vaccination. Parents refused to get their children the shots and medical providers were not offering the vaccine because of risks and that the safety of the vaccine not been proven, regardless of the fact that approximately 100 children die each year from the flu.
According to a recent study at Vanderbilt University, flu shots are considered safe (and necessary) for babies and toddlers.
As a result of vaccination, children were less likely to receive unnecessary medical treatment because parents were not attributing the symptoms to the flu. Children, like the elderly, are more vunerable and are more likely to suffer from complications and be hospitalized (costing $$$).
Hurrah for health promotion!
